Nextbite (formerly Ordermark)

Nextbite merged with Kitchen United and Creating Culinary Communities (C3) to form the virtual restaurant brands company Everybody Eats.

Nextbite (formerly Ordermark) was originally launched as an online order management platform to help restaurants manage various third-party delivery services. In 2020, the company launched the virtual-restaurant brand creator, Nextbite. In November 2021, the company rebranded as Nextbite to better reflect its expanded scope as a virtual restaurant business.

Nextbite was to continue to sell and maintain the turnkey ‘Ordermark’ platform as a separate offering but would double down on its delivery-only brands. In June 2023 , the company announced the sale of Ordermark, to UrbanPiper, an India-based developer of an integrated order management solution. In the same week, Nextbite was acquired by Sam Nazarian. As a part of the deal Nextbite will be renamed "Nextbite by SBE" and will operate separately from C3's virtual brands. Nazarian will replace Nextbite CEO Alex Canter as head of the company.

As of February 2022, the company had 17 food brands listed on up to 50 different online marketplaces, with multiple orders streamlined through Ordermark’s delivery aggregation technology. Nextbite does not build or operate its own kitchens but relies on the unused kitchen capacity of restaurants that the company has vetted to act as its quasi-franchisees. Most of Nextbite’s partners are independent restaurants but it also works with regional chains like Baja Fresh and chain restaurant franchisees and fine-dining and steakhouse concepts.

Key customers and partnerships

In 2020, Nextbite was among the first virtual restaurant brand operators to co-develop a celebrity-inspired food concept, starting with Hotbox by Wiz Khalifa and moving on to George Lopez Tacos. Other celebrity-endorsed virtual restaurant brands offered by the company include Packed Bowls by Wiz Khalifa and TenderFix by Noah Schnapp. Nextbite also has partnerships with the fast food restaurant brand Nathan’s Famous (April 2023) and the Dubai-based shawarma brand “Shawarmama”(April 2023) to serve the brands through Nextbite’s restaurant partner network.

Funding and financials

In October 2020, the company raised USD 120 million in a Series C funding round led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2. Nextbite leveraged the funds to launch new virtual brands and hire a VP to develop more celebrity-backed brands, a culinary director, and a branding expert from Chipotle.
