Noblegen is a Canada-based advanced nutritional ingredients company that sells its products under the brand “Eunite.” Its products include protein, carbohydrate, and oil ingredients as well as plant-based egg, snackable protein crisps, snack bars, meat, and dairy analogues which are in development. The startup uses large-scale fermentation technology to create an entire food system from euglena—a single-celled microorganism that is high in protein and other nutrients. The startup claimed that the process has a 70%–80% feed conversion efficiency (vs. 5%–10% for livestock) and that the speed of growth of euglena is also high, as it replicates every 12–24 hours.
In February 2020, Eunite launched its first product—a plant-based whole egg powder—which was available for a limited time in a tester form for early adopters.
In May 2019, Noblegen secured CAD 25 million (~USD 20 million) in Series B financing led by Richardson Ventures Inc. and BDC’s Cleantech Practice. Funds were to be used for the commercialization of its products, R&D, and expansion of production and refining capacity.
