Founded in 2015 by Bryanne Leeming, Unruly Studios helps children in grades 1 - 7 learn fundamental STEM skills by integrating active, physical play with coding. The company seeks to achieve its vision of creating an electronic playground that makes learning more playful, collaborative, and inclusive through its Unruly Splats—durable, programmable floor buttons that students can stomp on and control through code. Students can customize lights and sounds, and collaborate to play games whack-a-mole, relay races, and dance routines, or create new games with their own rules using the company’s proprietary block code language. Games can be played in school, at home, or with a hybrid model using an app. A classroom kit that includes 10 floor tiles, pre-programmed activities, and a consultation with the Unruly team costs around USD 800 with extra custom options and packages are also available.
The company raised USD 1 million in funding in April 2020.
