Embark Technology (acquired by Applied Intuition)

Embark Technology is a software company developing autonomous driving technology specifically for long-haul trucking. Its primary offering is the Embark Driver, a software stack that utilizes machine learning methodologies for perception and relies on a safety-redundant compute system. Embark has built a robust autonomous software platform optimized for highway driving conditions and has conducted over 1.5 million miles of supervised autonomous operations on highways as of May 2023. The company plans to deliver its software through a subscription service model, partnering with leading carriers who will pay a per-mile fee.

Embark does not manufacture vehicles but instead aims to integrate its Embark Universal Interface into truck platforms from various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This universal approach allows the company's technology to work across different truck brands. In December 2022, Embark delivered a Kenworth T-680 integrated with its software to Knight-Swift Transportation as part of an industry-first program where the carrier will own, maintain, and operate the autonomous truck.

As of March 2022, Embark had secured over 14,200 reservations for its autonomous trucks through its Partner Development Program, representing non-binding refundable deposits from carriers and shippers. Notable partners include Knight-Swift, DHL Supply Chain, and Werner Enterprises. Embark projected USD 867 million in revenue for 2024 when it plans to commercially launch the Embark Driver.

In May 2023, Embark announced it would be acquired by Applied Intuition, a software provider for autonomous vehicle development, in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately USD 71 million. As part of the acquisition, Embark will retire its fleet of test vehicles.
