Oddbox is a British startup that collects ‘wonky' fruits and vegetables directly from local farms and markets for redistribution to consumers on a subscription basis. Customers can customize their box by type of produce (fruit, vegetables, or both) and the size of the box and receive it on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Oddbox makes its deliveries overnight to avoid traffic and lower carbon emissions as a result, and the company takes full responsibility if the package goes missing overnight.
Oddbox also donates excess produce to food producer charities such as City Harvest and Brixton Family Fridge in the UK.
As of 2024, the company had delivered nearly 8 million boxes across the UK and saved around 46,000 tons of fruit and vegetables from going to waste. The company states that it aims to save 150,000 tons of produce from going to waste by 2025. Oddbox also claimed that it had three electric delivery vehicles and planned to achieve a fully electric fleet by 2025 for its net zero emissions objectives.
The Oddbox price starts at GBP 11.5 (~USD 15.0) and the company claims that its boxes are priced 30% lower than similar box services.
Key customers and partnerships
As of 2024, Oddbox had partnered with more than 50 suppliers including some large UK produce suppliers, such as G’s Fresh, Produce World, and Thanet Earth to ensure a smooth supply of “wonky” produce.
In August 2023, Oddbox partnered with Penrhos to create a gin using “wonky” cucumbers and apples rescued by Oddbox. The partnership marked Oddbox’s first collaboration for curating gin using its rescued fruit.
