Timescale is a company providing time-series databases and related tools for analyzing and managing time-stamped data.

TimescaleDB is Timescale’s flagship product. It is a time-series database designed to handle high volumes of time-stamped data with scalability and reliability. TimescaleDB solves the problem of efficiently storing and analyzing time-series data prevalent in various industries, including IoT, finance, monitoring, and analytics. The database allows users to store and query time-series data in a structured SQL format.

Timescale's competitive advantage lies in the unique architecture of TimescaleDB, which combines the scalability of a distributed database with the ease of use and familiarity of SQL. It integrates with the existing PostgreSQL ecosystem and tooling, allowing users to leverage their SQL skills and existing infrastructure. 

Timescale offers TimescaleDB as a commercial open-source sales model; the core features are available as open-source software. Subsequently, Timescale also offers enterprise support options for businesses that require additional features, performance enhancements, and dedicated support. 

Key customers and partnerships

Timescale’s database is used for cloud-native developments by technology and non-technology companies, including European Space Agency, Jane, Density, FlightAware, and K6. 

As of June 2023, Timescale partners with all major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and has technology partnerships with IBM and Intel.

Funding and financials

As of June 2023, Timescale’s latest fundraising was in 2022 from a USD 110 million Series C round led by Tiger Global Management. The funds are to invest in product development, R&D, and engineering.
