Based in France, Lactips produces plastic free, water soluble, and biodegradable plastic. The company’s patented Lactips technology uses casein to produce thermoplastic pellets. Lactips’ material is customizable and designed to be compatible with modern production machines. As such, it can be converted using existing processes such as extrusion, injection, or blow moulding, as well as vertical and horizontal flow packing. The material has applications across a variety of sectors including the food, cosmetics, textiles, agriculture, and construction industries.
Lactips opened a 2,500 square meter facility in 2021. Located in Saint-Paul-en-Jarez, the facility will has a capacity of 3,000 tons of pellets annually. With a gradual installation of up to six production lines, the target is to touch a capacity of 10,000 tons per year.
Key customers and partnerships
In 2019, Lactips entered into distribution partnerships with German chemicals company BASF and IMCD, a German distributor of food ingredients and specialty chemicals.
Funding and financials
The company raised EUR 13 million led by Bpifrance’s SPI (Société de Projet Industriel) fund and the innovation investment arm of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings. Lactips aims to use the funds to scale its industrial facilities and product development.
