IOTech

IOTech provides open and vendor-neutral software platforms and tools to build, deploy, and manage IoT edge applications. The platforms cater to multiple industries, including building and industrial automation, oil and gas, smart energy, and retail, among others. IOTech is part of Linux’s EdgeX Foundry (vendor-neutral open source IoT project) to further its goal of building a common framework for the edge. The company is also backed by Dell Technologies Capital.

In June 2020, the company launched “Edge XRT” (which was announced in 2019), primarily to simplify the development of time-critical IoT systems at the edge. Furthermore, in December 2020, it partnered with the leading security company, RSA, to enhance its platform’s security monitoring.

In February 2021, IOTech released its “Edge Xpert” platform, to deliver IoT edge capabilities which mainly rely on vision related data, such as those from camera devices. It enables software models which rely on object detection, classification, and recognition. Accordingly, the platform caters to a range of industries, including retail, manufacturing, transportation, and venue management.

In November 2023, the company introduced “Edge Central,” an open data platform, which is designed as a one-stop-shop solution, to help businesses utilize their edge data without running the risk of vendor lock-in. Key functionalities of Edge Central include connectivity and control with devices and sensors at the edge, innate data processing, data flow to and from diverse cloud systems, and a modular, open architecture. Moreover, it is flexible and can operate on any device, including IoT gateways, industrial PCs, or edge servers.

Key customers and partnerships

The company expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to offer both IOTech’s platforms for Google Cloud’s enterprise customers in November 2021. Users will be able to use IOTech’s platforms to deploy smart, no-code, and integrated edge-cloud solutions to extract and process data from a range of OT devices.

In recent years, IOTech has formed several partnerships to drive innovation. In January 2024, the company partnered with SHIFT Energy to focus on enhancing energy efficiency in building heating and cooling systems and partnered with Advantech in September 2023 to provide advanced edge data processing solutions for smart manufacturing and industrial automation. Additionally, in January

2023, IOTech collaborated with LATERAL.systems to accelerate innovation in the emerging smart farming markets.

Funding and financials

In August 2023, IOTech raised an undisclosed amount of growth funding in a round led by Dell Technologies Capital. Along with the funding, the company announced its expansion in the North American market. Accordingly, the funds were earmarked for investments in accelerating product development and supporting go-to-market activities in the region.
