California-based Tripp is a meditation and mindfulness app that provides wellness solutions in the form of guided meditations and personally curated mindfulness exercises, to improve focus, concentration and enhance mental wellness.

The app uses VR & AR to deliver psychedelic visual and audio experiences, similar to what people experience during a psychedelic trip, without the use of psychedelic drugs. Tripp caters directly to consumers and also through employer benefit plans. It is also researching non-chemical, digital methods to tackle mental health issues including several clinical trials to understand the effectiveness of the Tripp platform as a therapeutic device to treat anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders.

With the acquisition of PsyAssist, a digital startup that provides support to conduct psychedelic-assisted therapies, the company entered the psychedelic space in August 2021. It will jointly launch a new product called the “TRIPP PsyAssist” to provide step-by-step guidelines for psychotherapists and patients before, during, and after therapies.

Tripp’s session only takes a few minutes to complete and has been reported by users to elevate mood by 25% on average. The company offers its app on external platforms such as Oculus and Playstation and is exploring more integrations with similar platforms to expand the user base. It also has plans to roll out Tripp in AR glasses and mobile devices soon.

In June 2022, the company acquired Eden , a VR-based world-building video game created by developer BeardedEye, in order to create community-driven experiences in the mindful metaverse.

In July 2024, Tripp launched Kōkua XR in beta, an AI meditation guide for personalized wellness experiences. The app was available for Quest headsets, and monthly subscriptions cost USD 9.99. Kōkua XR provides individualized meditative reflections based on real-time user feedback. Users can speak and have the app leverage a large language model (LLM) to receive meditation guidance. Other key features included mood tracking based on heart rate and breathing patterns.

Key customers and partnerships

In January 2023, the company partnered with fellow mindfulness provider, Equa Health , to develop clinically validated mindfulness training modules, known as “experiences.” The extended reality training modules will cover the core areas of concentration power, equanimity (or calmness), and sensory clarity.
