Open Cosmos is a space technology company that designs, builds, launches, and operates advanced satellites for telecommunications, Earth observation, navigation, and scientific missions. The company also offers a multi-satellite data platform that integrates high-resolution satellite imagery with advanced visualization tools to offer detailed insights, aiding in more informed decision-making.

The company's key product is the OpenConstellation, a global, shared satellite infrastructure that provides diverse, frequent, and reliable data on planet changes. Countries, institutions, and companies contribute satellites to the OpenConstellation, creating the world's largest mutualized satellite constellation. Open Cosmos launched its first Earth observation satellite, MENUT, in January 2023 as part of the OpenConstellation. MENUT monitors weather, environmental changes, and the sustainable use of natural resources. As of June 2024, it had conducted eight satellite launches. OpenConstellation provides benefits like lower cost, priority tasking rights, and 3x more data coverage.

The data collected by the OpenConstellation satellites is processed and distributed through Open Cosmos' cloud-based DataCosmos platform. Launched in early 2022, the DataCosmos platform is a multi-satellite data platform that integrates various types of satellite imagery and data collected by the OpenConstellation satellites, as well as from complementary sources, which is processed to deliver actionable intelligence to address environmental challenges, algorithmic results, and a range of applications making satellite imagery practical and valuable for organizations aiming to monitor and enhance their environmental impact.

Open Cosmos also offers an end-to-end service called “OpenOrbit,” delivering complete satellite missions from design and manufacturing to launch and operations with a small-satellite infrastructure developed in a few months.

Key customers and partnerships

Open Cosmos collaborates with various space agencies, governments, and commercial entities as partners in the OpenConstellation project. In September 2023, the company partnered with Accenture to implement and run data projects for Accenture's customers, focusing on sustainability. Further, in June 2023, Open Cosmos collaborated with Satellite Applications Catapult to build and launch a key demonstration satellite to join the Open Cosmos OpenConstellation network.

In August 2024, the company launched the Phisat-2 CubeSat in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite launched with four apps and was designed to demonstrate the benefits of AI for Earth observation applications.
