Based in Switzerland, Kitro offers an AI-based, automated imaging solution for food waste analysis. Kitro’s camera device can be installed on top of food bins to automatically identify and record all discarded food items, including weight, and make recommendations on how to reduce waste.
Kitro also expanded to Germany, Austria, and France as of 2024 and began a trial in Australia.
As of 2024, Kitro claimed that its AI-based imaging solution could reduce 30% of avoidable food waste and save between 2% and 8% of customers’ annual food costs. The company also reported that it saved 600 tons of food waste and 1.3 million meals and reduced 2,700 tons of CO2 emissions.
