Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) is a high-growth renewable energy company focused on building a sustainable future. The company owns and operates a portfolio of 31 wind, solar, and energy storage facilities across the US, totaling approximately three gigawatts of generating capacity as of June 2023. LRE is actively developing and contracting a robust pipeline of new renewable energy projects.
One of LRE's key projects is the repowered GSG Wind facility located in Lee and LaSalle Counties, Illinois. In January 2024, the company completed the repowering of this project, which involved decommissioning 40 wind turbines and constructing 26 new turbines utilizing the latest GE technology. The repowered GSG Wind facility now generates 50% more clean energy with a smaller footprint, creating a more efficient facility with lower operating and maintenance costs. LRE recycled or reused 100% of the decommissioned wind turbines, keeping more than 600 tons of metal and fiberglass out of public landfills.
Another notable project for LRE is the White Wing Ranch Solar facility, a 179-megawatt facility located in Yuma County, Arizona. As of November 2023, construction was underway on this project, which is expected to be operational in the second half of 2024. LRE is pursuing innovative land management practices at White Wing Ranch Solar to promote the regeneration of native desert ecosystems.
In November 2023, LRE closed approximately USD 580 million of tax equity commitments and debt facilities for the White Wing Ranch Solar and GSG Wind projects. The company has stated that this financing reflects the continued confidence from leading financial institutions and knowledgeable investors in LRE's growth plans and its ability to execute.
