Atomos Space is an orbital logistics provider, specializing in developing orbital transfer vehicles (OTVs) that aim to reduce the cost of satellite operators by providing in-orbit repositioning services. Apart from this, with ubiquitous rendezvous and capture capabilities of the OTVs, the company provides recovery, disposal, servicing, and life extension services for satellites along with resupplying orbital platforms, refueling services, and in-space manufacturing to cover the full spectrum of orbital logistic services. While Atomos was initially focused on electric propulsion systems for its OTVs in 2023, the company also began to explore nuclear OTV options for future missions, which it claims can travel further and faster.
As of September 2024, Atomos was developing Quark, its reusable electric OTV slated to launch logistics services from 2024. Quark has a speed range of up to 3 km/s for a 2,000 kg payload and an autonomous rendezvous from 100 km to capture in any orbit.
Key customers and partnerships
In March 2023, Atomos Space partnered with Gilmour Space to offer in-space transportation and launch services for multiple customer spacecraft using Gilmour's vehicles. In October 2023, Atomos Space and Axiom Space teamed up to create a testing facility for spacecraft rendezvous and docking, to enable safe interactions and docking of multiple spacecraft in space for missions like refueling and cargo services. Atomos will provide the spacecraft to interact with Axiom Station in the test facility to demonstrate compatibility, communication consistency, fault detection, and abort procedures.
