Cibus is a biotech company that provides agricultural gene editing solutions that result in higher crop yield, less chemical usage, and improved sustainability to support the farming industry. Cibus completed its merger with biotech company Calyxt in June 2023, combining the companies' facilities and Calyxt’s Sustainable Ingredients solutions.
Cibus’ gene editing technology system, the Rapid Trait Development System (RTDS), integrates crop-specific cell biology platforms with a series of gene editing technologies including its proprietary Gene Repair Oligonucleotide (GRON) in combination with either CRISPR or TALEN. RTDS enables the Trait Machine, Cibus’ independent semi-automated end-to-end precision breeding platform system.
The company’s two segments are productivity traits and sustainable ingredients. The former segment improves crop yield and makes crop disease, pest, and climate resistant, and its crops include canola, rice, and soybean with wheat and corn in development. The latter segment is industrial products made from renewable low-carbon materials, which are developed through its subsidiary Nucelis using the RTDS and Cibus’ complex trait gene editing technology.
