Founded in 2016, Incident IQ launched a service management platform for K-12 schools in 2017, offering IT asset management, help desk ticketing, and facilities maintenance solutions. As of August 2021, Incident IQ was used by over 650 school districts across 48 states.

In February 2021, the company released Support Messenger, a tool within the Incident IQ platform for school IT teams to communicate in real time with teachers and students on tech support issues. Support Messenger keeps ticket communications organized with separate threads and speeds up IT response time.

In March 2021, the company announced the formation of the iiQ Technology Leadership Council comprising district technology leaders who use Incident IQ, including technology directors, chief information officers, and tech integration specialists, among others. Council members will share their insights on challenges faced by K-12 school districts to help develop the Incident IQ platform. Incident IQ launched the Fee Tracker app to allow IT teams to track school-related fees and payments through the Incident IQ platform, and the company plans to integrate the app with popular third-party payment processing solutions.

In April 2021, Incident IQ released enhanced mobile device management (MDM) solutions in partnership with Jamf and Mosyle Manager, developers of Apple device management software for businesses, schools, and government organizations. The new feature, Device Actions, allows users to execute MDM commands within Incident IQ. IT staff can manage devices using Device Actions (such as remotely restarting, locking, and wiping managed devices), view detailed asset metadata, and generate custom reports using MDM data points. In June 2021, the company launched the Incident IQ Academy, a self-guided training library with video content and written guides for school districts getting started on the platform and for those wanting to use the platform’s advanced tools. More recently, in March 2022, the company launched Incident IQ Community, a central hub for users to learn, share, and collaborate, featuring newsrooms, best practices, events calendar, and idea exchange.

In August 2021, the company announced that it had received a growth investment from private equity firm JMI Equity to accelerate the development of its platform to cover new K-12 departments besides IT management and facilities. The funds will also be used to hire new employees, and invest in customer support, customer success initiatives, and sales and marketing programs.

In February 2024 , Incident IQ announced that Cove Hill Partners, an investment firm, will join JMI Equity and Incident IQ's founders and management team as strategic investment partners to accelerate the company's product roadmap and expand its market leadership position in delivering cloud-native solutions to school districts across the US.
