VSORA

VSORA is a French company that develops silicon intellectual property (IP) and chips for artificial intelligence (AI), digital communications, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) applications. Its key offering is the Tyr family of PetaFLOPS computational companion chips designed to accelerate Level three (L3) through Level five (L5) autonomous driving. Launched in January 2022, the Tyr chips deliver between 258-trillion and 1,032-trillion operations per second while consuming as little as 10 Watts.

The Tyr family utilizes VSORA's proprietary and scalable AD1028 architecture, which tightly couples digital signal processing (DSP) cores with machine learning (ML) accelerators. This fully programmable architecture eliminates the need for expensive multi-chip or hardware accelerator solutions. VSORA claims its low-power design achieves more than 80% usage efficiency, approximating the theoretical maximum processing power.

In July 2023, VSORA unveiled Jotunn, an all-in-one single-chip family aimed at providing a massive performance jump for Generative AI inferencing. The Jotunn4 chip offers 1.6 petaflops with efficiencies over 50% for large language models like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, outperforming competitors with typical efficiencies of 2-4%.

Key customers and partnerships

In May 2024, VSORA and partners CEA-Grenoble and Valeo were named winners of the France 2030 Embedded AI Call for Projects. Their SHAPE AI project, focused on low-latency, low-power AI co-processors for autonomous driving, received USD 7.05 million in funding.

In 2023, VSORA secured USD 13.18 million from the European Innovation Council Accelerator Program for developing hardware acceleration solutions for AI inference and advanced signal processing.
