Powerpollen is an agricultural biotech company that uses technology in cross-pollination to improve seed production and crop yield; increase resilience against drought, flooding, and climate change; and extend the lifespan of food crops.
Powerpollen’s patented cross-pollination technology first tracks the maturation of plants using the company’s pollen planner and collects the pollen once it is matured from male plants. The pollen is stored and, after using scouting and data management to identify the optimal time, it is applied to increase yield. The technology’s on-demand pollination results in requiring fewer male plants, enabling more females per acre for greater output and land use.
The company develops production and yield for corn, rice, and wheat. For corn producers, Powerpollen’s technology can increase yield by ~20%, which is an estimated added value of USD 1,000 per acre.
Key customers and partnerships
Powerpollen partnered with and licensed its on-demand pollination technology to Corteva Agrisciences in April 2020 and Bayer in July 2021 to enable increased crop yield and productivity for corn seed production.
The company also partnered with Badische Anilin- und Sodafabrik (BASF) in July 2020 for a collaborative research project using Powerpollen’s technologies to improve BASF’s wheat program.
