Biome Technologies – Bioplastics division develops biodegradable, highly functional bioplastics (natural polymers) that replace and enhance products made from oil-based materials. The company offers a range of products including BiomeHT, BioMesh, fibers, flexible films, coating, and lamination based on natural resources. The company claims its products are renewable, biodegradable and compostable, and suitable for both short-life/disposable and long-life/durable applications and a wide scope of plastic processing methods, including injection molding, sheet extrusion for thermoforming and vacuum forming, blown film, lamination, extrusion coating, and monofilaments. All these polymers are subject to patent protection or application.
As of November 2022, Biome Technologies operated out of multiple facilities around the world including the manufacturing facility in Germany and offices in North America and the US and agents in other locations. Biome Technologies has been conducting R&D on biodegradable polymers since 2013, collaborating with seven universities and around 30 leading scientists and engineers. The company is currently leading a GBP 5 million (~USD 6 million) R&D program with academic and industrial partners aimed at reinventing the intrinsic synthesis of bioplastics to both improve performance and reduce cost.
Biome Technologies reported revenue of GBP 5.7 million (~USD 7 million) and an EBITDA loss of GBP 0.6 million (~USD 0.73 million) for the fiscal year 2021.
In November 2022 , the company received grant funding of GBP 282,000 (~USD 336,000) from Innovate UK, the UK's government innovation agency. In 2010, Biome Technologies was recognized in the Deloitte Technology Fast50 as the UK's second fastest-growing GreenTech business.
