Founded in 2017 by Stanford alumni Vivian Shen and Ruby Lee, Juni Learning provides live online STEM and English courses for children aged 7 to 18. In 2019, Juni Learning added middle school-level math classes in pre-algebra and algebra.
The company matches students with instructors based on personality, skill set, and teaching style with the aim of providing mentorship and individualized attention. In addition to one-on-one sessions, the company launched the Juni Team Sessions in September 2020. Under this program, courses will be available through learning pods of up to four students aged 11+ per class, allowing them to interact with a live instructor and with each other. In April 2021, Juni Learning launched Clubs, a safe and supportive environment for students to connect with peers and mentors from US universities over similar interests. The community also allows students to explore new hobbies, learn new skills, and make new friends. In February 2022, the company launched the ‘Future Of’ program, comprising project-based courses in cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, and climate change for students aged 12-14 and 15-18—reportedly the first learning program of its kind for students aged 12+. In March 2023, the company unveiled Juni Tutor Bot, an online tutoring solution that employs AI to support students in reaching their academic goals.
Juni Learning seeks to set itself apart by means of its proprietary instruction model, its curriculums that focus on mastering concepts, and by training all instructors in curriculum delivery. As of April 2021, Juni had more than 4,000 US-based active subscribers.
Funding and financials
Juni Learning’s most recent funding round was in August 2020 when it raised USD 10.5 million in Series A funding to hire more instructors and expand the number and types of courses offered on its platform.
