Pearl Certification provides third-party sustainability ratings for residential buildings. The company’s software assesses the energy efficiency and sustainability of homes to provide certification based on criteria such as the quality of construction, the efficiency of heating and cooling mechanisms, the amount of energy consumed, the availability of energy optimization and management solutions, and the use of renewable energy and energy storage. Pearl also plans to expand its certification system to include several high-performing home features, like indoor air quality, energy storage, and resilience.
Pearl Certification follows a B2B2C SaaS model, where contractors subscribe to the company’s software to offer the certification to homeowners. Homeowners can also use the company’s Green Door web app to track their Pearl score, get recommendations for upgrades, and find professionals for new home improvement projects.
The company claims that Pearl-certified homes can add 5% or more to their value. As of March 2024, more than 194,000 homes have been Pearl-certified. The company claims to provide thousands of new certifications per month, in addition to having built foundational relationships with the National Association of Realtors (which has also invested in Pearl Certification), the Appraisal Institute, and the Energy Star program of the US Department of Energy.
