Founded in 2008 by Alex Grodd and Erin Osborn, BetterLesson delivers personalized, professional learning and coaching online to K-12 teachers, coaches, and administrators. Using a one-on-one or small group format, BetterLesson covers topics such as instructional leadership, responsive and inclusive practices, flexible instructional models, and curriculum and academic content.
In 2012, the company launched the Master Teacher Project in partnership with the NEA, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and The Learning Accelerator to provide lesson plans in K-12 math, science, English, and blended learning developed by experienced teachers. BetterLesson Professional Learning shares teaching strategies through four service offerings: 1:1 Coaching, Design Workshops, Learning Series, and Learning Walks (personalized, job-embedded support).
As of October 2021, BetterLesson had partnered with more than 30,000 educators across the US, Puerto Rico, and five countries internationally, and reported 500,000 average monthly users.
In October 2021, the company partnered with EL Education, a nonprofit providing K-8 English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum and related professional learning to achieve its mission of closing literacy opportunity gaps. The partnership allows BetterLesson coaches to share best practices on implementing EL Education’s ELA curriculum with educators. In April 2022, BetterLesson partnered with TeachFX, an AI-powered technology that provides insights on learning dynamics in the classroom, to offer educators analytics on the effectiveness of their teaching strategies, and maintenance of FERPA privacy standards.
