MeMD is a telehealth company that provides individuals and businesses with on-demand, online care for common illnesses. Users are allowed to discuss multiple symptoms or conditions during a single consultation without paying an additional fee and get prescriptions sent to their local pharmacies.
In 2018, MeMD expanded to telebehavioral health care for patients experiencing mental and emotional health concerns. Moreover, in September 2020, MeMD launched a virtual care service for employers in order to help them reduce their costs. As of November 2020, MeMD had around 5 million members nationwide (including over 30,000 enterprise customers).
Walmart Health, a subsidiary of retail giant Walmart, signed a definitive agreement to acquire MeMD in May 2021. In May 2022, the company was rebranded as Walmart Health Virtual Care and its services were available in Florida’s Walmart Health centers. The company planned to expand to other existing Walmart Health centers in the future. The firm has also planned to develop a diabetes program in partnership with the American Diabetes Association.
