Candem Technologies

Candem Technologies is a Spanish provider of sensor and IoT-based device called RecySmart that identifies all types of packaging waste. Candem is a smart bin that scans the waste it collects and also provides insights on waste levels to optimize waste collection. The bins also have an access control lid, which only accepts waste that is scanned using its inbuilt scanner. The company supplies these devices to city authorities and waste service companies across Europe. Candem is also supported with a platform and mobile app, which can be used by businesses to get real-time insights. 

As of July 2021, the company had installed 208 Candem devices across seven European countries. Some of the waste service companies that use RecySmart are Vaoriza, Urbaser, and Ecovidrio. 

Key customers and partnerships

Candem entered the UK market in June 2021 by partnering with Deposit Return Solutions UK (a consultancy and solution provider focused on promoting a circular economy). The company also partnered with a Slovakia-based startup called Sensoneo (smart waste management provider using sensors) to provide asset tracking solutions and optimize trash pickup for its customers.

Funding and financials

In August 2023, Candam secured EUR 870,000 (~USD 938,000) from The CDTI Innovación and existing investors to expand the company and facilitate its expansion into international markets.
