Portugal-based Tesselo combines near real-time satellite imagery with AI and machine learning to monitor incremental changes in imagery over time, allowing for businesses to identify patterns, exposure, and risk factors. The platform automatically cleans and processes satellite imagery to create cloud-free, 13 bands imagery. Tesselo’s proprietary technology can be adopted across forestry, agriculture, infrastructure, and insurance.
Tesselo’s solutions classify tree species, measure and predict forest growth, monitor plantation harvests, detect pests, and estimate the risk or impact of forest fires and other natural disasters. The company’s mapping layers obtained from its technology alarms environmental exposure in real time, including the impact of forest fires on local habitats within hours of occurrence. As of November 2022, Tesselo was conducting pilot stage testing.
Funding and financials
In August 2020, Tesselo raised EUR 400,000 (USD 500,000) in a pre-seed funding round co-led by Portugal Ventures and EDP Ventures. The funds were to be used for product development activities.
