bettervest is a crowdfunding platform that finances sustainable and future-oriented projects worldwide, with a focus on Africa and Germany. Established in 2012, the company's mission is to shape a more climate-friendly and social economy by enabling citizens to invest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resource conservation initiatives.
bettervest's platform allows individuals to collectively invest small amounts, starting from as little as 50 euros, in projects initiated by enterprises, NGOs, and municipalities. These projects encompass various areas, including solar mini-grids, biological wastewater treatment, and energy-efficient building renovations. By financing such projects, bettervest contributes to reducing energy costs, conserving resources, and mitigating CO2 emissions.
Since its inception, bettervest has facilitated investments totaling over 22 million euros into more than 110 impact projects across 20 countries and four continents, primarily in Africa (52%) and Europe (42%). These projects have supported 14 of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on combating climate change, providing affordable and clean energy, promoting good health and well-being, and fostering decent work and economic growth.
Notably, bettervest's projects have led to the creation of nearly 2,000 new jobs and the electrification of over 45,000 homes through 63 off-grid initiatives, of which 42 are dedicated Energy Access projects. The company has maintained a 100% success rate in funding its projects, offering investors returns ranging from 4% to 12%.
In January 2023, bettervest partnered with the African Guarantee Fund (AGF) to mitigate risks associated with impact investing. The AGF will provide partial guarantees to bettervest on a risk-sharing basis for defaults under credit facilities for African SMEs, further increasing the attractiveness of impact investments.
