Deep Isolation provides nuclear waste disposal solutions by collecting them in corrosion-resistant canisters and placing the canisters in stable rock drill holes underground. As of February 2023, the company was granted 19 patents and has more than 90 notices of invention.
The company's technology is approved and in use in the US, Europe and Asia, with further expansion plans to more than 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), targeting governmental and independent public bodies in the nuclear waste management market.
Key customers and partnerships
In March 2024, Deep Isolation partnered with SHINE Technologies for storage and disposal of the high-level waste that will remain as a residue after deployment of SHINE’s technology for recycling used nuclear fuel (UNF). In December 2023, the company partnered with Curio, a trailblazer in nuclear technology solutions, for the development of advanced technologies for efficient and secure disposal of high-level nuclear waste (HLW).
Funding and financials
In February 2023, Deep Isolation won a grant from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to engineer a corrosion-resistant canister capable of safely encapsulating spent fuel assemblies for disposal within deep borehole repositories one to two kilometers underground.
