Upstream Tech leverages satellite data, AI/ML, and remote sensing to provide climate and environmental insights. The company's two flagship products are HydroForecast and Lens. HydroForecast is a next-gen global water forecasting system that provides short-term, seasonal and long-term climatological forecasts. In July 2024, the company launched HydroForecast ST-3, which predicts streamflow for 0–10 days using distributed machine learning models that remain effective even when input data is missing or delayed. The platform helps hydropower operators and water resource managers maintain safe operations and grid stability during extreme weather conditions. Lens is a remote monitoring and reporting platform that provides access to geospatial data and remote imagery, supporting the monitoring and restoration of millions of acres of land globally.
Key customers and partnerships
In January 2021, ENGIE partnered with Upstream Tech to use HydroForecast for managing 1.7 GW of hydroelectric assets in Portugal. HydroForecast’s modeling supports ENGIE in predicting inflows and optimizing operations at hydro facilities on the Douro River. In March 2024, Denver Water adopted HydroForecast to enhance responsiveness and resilience in water resource management. Its other notable customers include Brookfield and Mercury Power New Zealand, among others.
