Based in London, Worn Again provides recycling solutions to eliminate textile wastes. It recycles polyester and polycotton textiles and PET plastic bottles into their raw materials for circular use. The company utilizes a proprietary chemical recycling technology that separates, decontaminates, and extracts the polyester and cellulose from cotton non-reusable textiles and bottles.
As of March 2024, the company was in pilot-scale operations and constructing its demonstration plant, aiming to prevent up to 1,000 tonnes of textiles from being incinerated annually, expected to be online by 2024. The company plans to launch commercial plants by 2027, converting up to 50,000 tons of used textiles into polyester.
Key customers and partnerships
In December 2020, Worn Again partnered with Sulzer and H&M Group to develop a demonstration plant for textile recycling and scale up the closed-loop recycling process. The company has partnered with brands like ASICS Europe (sportswear), Sympatex (outdoor textiles), Dibella (linen) and Dhana (garment) to supply its recycled raw materials. In October 2023, Worn Again joined the Alliance of Textile Chemical Recyclers (ACTR) to initiate educational, outreach, and engagement opportunities for companies in the industry.
Funding and Financials
In October 2022, Worn Again raised GBP 27.6 million (~USD 30.57 million) led by strategic partners Sulzer and H&M for the construction of a large-scale demo plant in Switzerland that can upcycle upto 1,000 tons per year.
