Skyloom Global Corp. is a telecommunications company based in Broomfield, Colorado, specializing in space-based optical communications networking technologies. The company develops, deploys, and operates fundamental components of tomorrow's space-based telecommunication infrastructure to provide planetary-scale data transport services. Skyloom's proprietary technology, including Optical Communications Terminals (OCTs), enables high-bandwidth connections for satellite-to-satellite, satellite-to-earth, and earth-to-satellite data transmissions.
In March 2023, Skyloom opened a new 23,000 square foot headquarters in Broomfield, with half of the facility dedicated to manufacturing OCTs and optical communications satellites. This expansion allows for a significant increase in production capacity to meet rising demand from customers globally. Skyloom's innovative approach overcomes the space data bottleneck by harnessing the power of light instead of radio frequencies, massively increasing bandwidth and availability at highly competitive rates.
Skyloom has collaborated with various partners, including the US Space Force's Space Development Agency, Space Compass (a joint venture between SKY Perfect JSAT and NTT), and Satellogic. In September 2023, Skyloom signed an agreement with Satellogic to integrate its OCT onto Satellogic's satellites, enabling new methods of high-resolution Earth Observation data delivery through Skyloom's SkyCompass-1 geostationary lasercom network.
Furthermore, in a groundbreaking partnership announced in March 2024, Skyloom joined forces with NEC Corporation to develop and commercialize one of the world's fastest space optical terminals, the 100 Gbps WARP OCT. This optical communication equipment aims to revolutionize data transmission between broadband and Earth Observation satellites, with plans to launch test satellites equipped with the WARP OCT in 2026.
