NovoNutrients produces aquafeeds (referred to as NovoMeal) by utilizing microbes and industrial waste. The company’s manufacturing process involves the use of gas fermentation, which blends carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen inside a bioreactor in the presence of microbes, to generate specific products, including alternative protein ingredients.
Key customers and partnerships
In September 2020, NovoNutrients announced partnerships with Chevron and Skretting (a Norwegian animal feed producer) to test its technology. The first product sample was shipped to be tested at the Skretting’s Aquaculture Research Center during the same month.
Funding and Financials
The company’s most recent funding round was in April 2023, when it raised USD 3 million from Woodside Energy to construct a pilot plant to test the feasibility of NovoNutrients' technology for commercialization. Previously in July 2021, NovoNutriets raised USD 4.7 million led by Happiness Capital. The proceeds were to be used to complete the company’s industrial pilot program—a 1,000-liter bioreactor—followed by a 20,000-liter industrial demonstration project.
