Based in Canada, Waste Robotics offers three types of sorting robots which use an optical material recognition technology to streamline the process of recycling. The robots differ based on the type of waste they identify. The three robots can detect and sort (1) organic material, (2) construction materials, (3) and sort paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic, respectively. The company's Waste Robotics Autonomous Recycling (WAR) technology is integrated into the handling process to allow more precise recycling.
As of March 2024, the robots are reported to be able to sort up to nine tons per hour per robot.
Funding and financials
In September 2023, Waste Robotics raised CAD 10 million (~ USD 7.3 million) in funding from Mirova, a French financial institution, and Fondaction, a Canadian capital market company, to support the company's expansion in France, the UK, and North America.
