Swiss company 9T Labs sells 3D printers, named the Red series, with related software and materials for additive manufacturing (AM), targeting aerospace, leisure, and medical industries for use cases like helicopter door hinge bracket manufacturing, automotive bracket for motorsports, luxury watch cases, and medical instruments. The company uses Additive Fusion Technology (AFT), a proprietary two-stage process that produces a fiber layup and then applies heat and pressure to fuse the preformed part. The Fibrify software platform enables customers to define fiber designs and allows them to control, monitor, and manage equipment in real time. 9T Labs uses continuous fibers, carbon, glass, and basalt, as they are lightweight, high strength, stable, x-ray transparent, and corrosion-resistant.
9T Labs expanded to the US in January 2022.
Key customers and partnerships
In November 2021, 9T Labs partnered with materials and chemical company Solvay to develop carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials for AM applications. The company also has a partnership with AM incumbent Ansys to jointly develop an integrated design and simulation workflow software for AM applications.
Funding and financials
9T labs raised USD 17 million in Series A funding in February 2022, bringing the total funding to USD 22.5 million. Incumbent Stratasys was one of the key investors in the round. The funds were expected to be used to fully commercialize the Red Series AM platform.
