Immertec focuses on providing real-time VR surgical training solutions via a peer-to-peer collaboration platform that allows remote attendees to view a live 3D stream of an operating room. The platform allows users to view up to four medical feeds from the operating room, including but not limited to, endoscopic views, x-rays, overhead views, and other medical imaging, alongside medical feed annotation and data analytics features. Types of surgeries livestreamed include urology, otolaryngology, endovascular, and orthopedic procedures.

Users can also access its recording library for on-demand surgical procedure viewing. Additionally, the company had plans to implement live surgical training facilitated by medical experts. Immertec claims that use of its platform enables a 70% engagement score in VR.

Immertec's business model enables medical device companies to host events on its platform, inviting physicians to sign up. Registered participants are provided a VR headset to attend these events virtually from their homes or offices, using the Immertec app to join a livestream and experience an operating room environment remotely.

Key customers and partnerships

As of February 2024, Immertec’s platform facilitated training for over 1,500 surgeons, with 60 instructors on its platform. Key enterprises using its platform included Boston Scientific, Zimmer Biomet, and Terumo.

The company’s research partners to improve its platform included the Emory University School of Medicine, The National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the University of Leeds.

Funding and financials

In February 2024, the company raised USD 4 million in an extended Series A funding round. Previously, in January 2024, the company received a USD 1.6 million grant from The NIH as part of a collaborative research initiative between Immertec and the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS). Proceeds were earmarked for a two-year project to evaluate the efficacy of immersive technology in providing specialized medical training to rural healthcare professionals.
