Founded in 2018 by Ian Freed and Irina Fine, Bamboo Learning promotes voice-powered education, offering educational experiences through services such as Amazon’s Alexa. The company offers five Alexa skills: Bamboo Luminaries, Bamboo Books, Bamboo Math, Bamboo Music, and Highlights Storybooks from Bamboo, all of which can be enabled for free on Alexa-capable devices. They offer a range of challenging and engaging exercises to help customers master different levels of subjects.
In May 2021, the company introduced Bamboo Learning Alexa, a set of activities for children in grades K-5 in listening and reading comprehension, language arts, and math. The program is based on the standard curriculum, aligned with the Common Core and other state standards, and is reportedly the first comprehensive children's learning program on Amazon’s Alexa. The company also launched Bamboo Learning Plus, a subscription to its complete program of beginner, grade-level, and advanced activities for USD 3.99 per month per family for up to six users. In December 2021, the company launched the Bamboo Learning App for iOS for K-5 students, which combines voice recognition and touch. The app, which focuses on reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, and foundational literacy, is offered under a freemium pricing model with a USD 3.99 monthly subscription that offers access to more content.
In December 2021, Bamboo Learning raised an undisclosed amount from Day One Syndicate.
