Weld North Education (WNE) is the largest provider of Pre-K-12 digital curriculum solutions in the US. The company is part of Weld North, an investment firm founded in 2010 by Jonathan Grayer (former Chairman and CEO of education company Kaplan) focusing on education, health and wellness, consumer services, and marketing businesses.
The company announced in November 2021 that it was bringing together all the company’s products and solutions under a single unified brand, Imagine Learning. This includes, Edgenuity (a provider of online courseware and intervention solutions acquired in 2011), Imagine Learning (a provider of a digital supplemental curriculums in literacy, language, and mathematics acquired in 2014), Intellify Learning (a provider of learning data management and analytics solutions acquired in 2016), Glynlyon (a digital curriculum company acquired in 2019), LearnZillion (a provider of digital-first core curriculums acquired in 2020), Purpose Prep (a provider of social and emotional learning courses acquired in 2020), and BookheadEd Learning (a developer of the StudySync and SyncBlasts solutions acquired in February 2021 in line with its vision of offering a digital-first core curriculum for K-12). More recently, in July 2021, WNE acquired a British provider of digital science programs, Twig Education, allowing WNE to expand its curricula beyond English language arts and mathematics and allows Twig Education to expand its presence across the US. At the time of acquisition, Twig Education’s products were used across 60+ countries in 20 different languages.
Funding and financials
In March 2021, Onex Corporation, a Toronto-based investment management firm, completed a USD 275 million investment in WNE, through Onex Partners V, its fifth flagship fund totaling USD 7.2 billion. The funding also included participation from existing investor and private equity firm, Silver Lake, and the company’s management team.
