ChromoGenics is a Swedish proptech company that develops and manufactures electrochromic and thermochromic glass technologies under the brand name ConverLight. Its flagship product, ConverLight Dynamic, is a dynamic glass solution that regulates heat and light transmission through an electrochromic coating laminated between glass panes. By applying an electrical voltage, the glass can switch between a tinted and a transparent state, providing effective solar control and reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling in buildings by 20-40%.
In April 2023, ChromoGenics announced the successful installation of its switchable glass solutions in office buildings in Sweden and Greece as part of the EU-funded Switch2Save project. This project aimed to develop lightweight and energy-efficient insulating glass units with electrochromic and thermochromic systems for large windows and glass facades. ChromoGenics collaborated with partners like Fraunhofer FEP to realize a roll-to-roll deposition process for thermochromic vanadium oxide coatings.
In addition to ConverLight Dynamic, ChromoGenics offers ConverLight Static, a static solar control glass, and ConverLight Energy, energy-efficient colored solar cell panels for facades. The company's technology originated from research at the Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University, and its production facility in Uppsala has been partially financed by the Swedish Energy Agency.
In 2021, ChromoGenics reported net sales of SEK 24.7 million and an operating loss of SEK 57.4 million as it transitioned from a development company to an industrial company. By the end of 2022, the company had delivered around 4,000 m² of dynamic and static glass to the environmentally certified Gullhaugs Torg project in Oslo.
