Emesent is a leading provider of autonomous SLAM-based LiDAR mapping and data analytics solutions, specializing in challenging and GPS-denied environments. Founded in 2018, the company builds on a decade of pioneering research conducted at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia. Emesent's flagship product is Hovermap, a versatile LiDAR mapping and autonomy payload that can be mounted on drones, vehicles, or used as a handheld device. Hovermap utilizes simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to create highly accurate 3D point cloud maps of complex environments, even in areas without GPS coverage.
The Hovermap system offers various deployment options and is suitable for a wide range of industry surveying scenarios. In March 2022, Emesent launched the Hovermap ST, an IP65-rated payload featuring Automated Ground Control for enhanced accuracy in harsh environments. This was followed by the release of Hovermap ST-X in October 2022, which extended the sensing range to 300 meters and improved point cloud density and accuracy. Emesent's solutions have found significant applications in the mining sector, helping companies like BHP, Glencore, and Anglo American obtain high-quality mapping data to improve safety and productivity. The company has expanded its reach to serve over 300 customers across 40 countries, with a focus on industries such as mining, infrastructure, AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction), oil and gas, and defense.
Key customers and partnerships
Emesent has established partnerships with several key players in the industry to enhance its service offerings. In January 2022, the company partnered with Robotic Skies to provide local drone technology servicing for American customers through a network of over 140 service centers across the Americas. This collaboration aims to improve maintenance and support for Emesent's products in the US.
Emesent has also partnered with Pointerra, developers of the Digital Twin visualization platform Pointerra3D, to enable users to view, share, and derive insights from Hovermap point clouds online. Additionally, Emesent announced integrations with the Boston Dynamics Spot robot and the American-made Freefly Astro drone, expanding the deployment options for its Hovermap technology.
In the mining sector, Emesent's technology has been adopted by major companies such as BHP for its Olympic Dam mine and Rio Tinto for its Argyle Diamond Mine.
