AIM3D

Founded in Germany as a spin-off from the University of Rostock, AIM3D offers several additive manufacturing solutions including printers and materials, mainly focusing on using pellet feedstocks for 3D printing. The company’s core technology, Composite Extrusion Modeling (CEM), enables the 3D printing of plastic, ceramic, and metal parts using injection molding granulates or metal injection molding (MIM) feedstocks. It features thermal separation of housing, which enables the processing of materials like ULTEM 9085 and higher flow rates for high-temperature material processing. In July 2024, AIM3D was granted four patents in the US and Europe for its compact pellet extruders and material extrusion printing technology.

The company’s flagship product is its ExAM line of 3D printers, which integrates its CEM technology to process a range of materials. Moreover, the printers leverage a novel printing process named Voxelfill, which enables the targeted filling of volume chambers to achieve specific material properties. The company claims that this process can enhance the strength and elasticity of printed parts while reducing print times for fully dense components.

In November 2023, the company partnered with 3D printing software company Create it Real to leverage its SlicEx slicing software to enable users to utilize the Voxelfill process for their 3D prints. The company also provided expertise on the topic of slicers to Create it Real for process optimization.
