Ventana Micro Systems specializes in developing high-performance, extensible, and secure compute chiplets based on RISC-V's open architecture.
The company also offers a customizable system-on-chip (SoC) chiplet (a small component of an integrated circuit) to enable hyperscalers to quickly change or alter processes during innovation. Ventana’s CPU cores are designed to deliver single thread performance that is optimized for cloud, enterprise data center, 5G, edge computing, AI/machine learning, automotive, and client applications.
Ventana’s SoCs maximize performance by targeting process geometries to enable customers to implement them in the most optimal process node for the target application. Additionally, the company’s chipset designs are portable across fabs and process nodes. Ventana also offers a parallel die-to-die (D2D) solution that is compliant with the OCP Open Domain-Specific Architecture (ODSA) physical interface standard to ensure interoperability.
In November 2023, Ventana introduced Veyron V2, a RISC-V processor with up to 40% performance improvement, advanced ecosystem support, and reduced development costs, featuring 32 cores per cluster and domain-specific acceleration technology.
Key customers and partnerships
In February 2022, the company partnered with Intel to make its cores available on the Intel Foundry Services (IFS) manufacturing process and allow customers to integrate them into their SoCs.
Furthermore, in November 2023, Ventana Micro Systems Inc. and Imagination Technologies announced a partnership to deliver best-in-class RISC-V SoCs solutions that give customers control over their heterogeneous SoC (System-on-a-Chip) implementations.
Funding and financials
The company came out of stealth in September 2021, with a USD 38 million funding round led by Sehat Sutardja and Weili Dai to develop their RISC V processors.
