UK-based Mimica develops the temperature-sensitive Mimica Touch indicator cap and labels to measure food freshness and predict when spoilage by measuring bumps on the surface of the product. The company claims that its technology extends the shelf-life of foods and reduces waste.
Mimica Touch was designed to be used on juices, milk bottles, and packaged meats. Since 2018, Mimica Touch has been used on a trial basis by the Danish dairy company Arla. As of June 2024, Arla and Mimica were in the final phases of testing its product.
In 2024, Mimica began developing the Mimica Bump Cap in collaboration with United Caps. The Bump Caps are designed specifically for bottles to indicate whether a beverage has spoiled using a patented plant-based gel technology. A smooth swipe across the cap indicates that the beverage is fresh, while a bumpy texture of the cap means the contents have started to spoil.
As of 2024, the company had yet to launch its products. The Mimica Bump Cap was exclusively available for subscription customers of EXALT, the UK-based juice cleanse provider.
