Alef Aeronautics

Alef (formerly called Armada Aeronautics prior to 2022) is a California-based advanced technology company designing and developing flying cars with street driving and vertical take-off capabilities. In October 2022 , the company launched "Model A," which was slated to begin production and initiate first deliveries in Q4 2025. The pre-sale of Alef cars began in October 2022, with a price tag of USD 300,000, enabling consumers to benefit from its proprietary technology that elevates the vehicle safely and quietly above everyday traffic. The car is primarily intended for road use, with the ideal purpose of flying short distances and heights to navigate specific obstacles, such as road conditions, weather, and infrastructure. The company is also actively developing the Alef "Model Z," a four-person sedan set to be introduced in 2035 with a price tag of USD 35,000. This model would have a flying range of 300+ miles and a driving range of 220+ miles.

The Alef "Model A" flying car offers a driving range of 200 miles and a flight range of 110 miles. It is equipped with a distributed electric propulsion system, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation without any exposed propellers. The vehicle incorporates advanced software flight stabilization and safety systems, along with an elevon stabilization system and all-wheel drive capability. Safety is a top priority, with key features such as triple to octuple redundancy of critical components, real-time diagnostics with thousands of data points, pre-flight start diagnostics, and obstacle detection and avoidance systems. Alef had plans to expedite its regulatory approval by pursuing air certification in Asia and Europe before seeking certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US. In June 2023 , the company received an FAA permit to test electric air taxis. Additionally, Alef had plans to initially obtain certification for its Model A as a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV), which restricts the car's speed to approximately 25 miles per hour on public roads.
