Game Taco

Game Taco is a gaming platform which allows users to compete in one-on-one and multiplayer online tournaments. The platform has a player matching technology, which allows  players of similar skill levels to compete. The platform establishes partnerships with game developers to add skill-based games to its platform. This includes exclusive games such as Breakout, Asteroids, and Centipede from developer Atari.  Available only on mobile devices as of May 2021, the platform aims to facilitate cross-platform play across PC and consoles as well.

In May 2021, Game Taco announced that Platinum Equity, a private investment firm, has acquired a controlling interest in the company. At the same time, Game Taco entered an agreement to acquire WorldWinner (for a sum reported to be in the higher end of eight figures). WorldWinner is a skill-based gaming publisher that was a part of GSN Games (a division of the Game Show Network owned by Sony Pictures Television). It offers skill-based tournaments through its web gaming portal and app.

The two companies aim to combine under Platinum Equity, with David Nathanson, a minority co-investor, serving as executive chairman and Joshua Barrow, Game Taco founder and CEO, serving as the new CEO. 

As a result of the acquisition, Game Taco will pick up games such as Solitaire Rush, Bejeweled, and Wheel of Fortune. As a combined entity, Game Taco and WorldWinner will own the skill-game IP rights for more than 200 generic and branded gaming titles. This expansion of the game portfolio is expected to position Game Taco well against its rival Skillz. In addition, Game Taco will expand toward web-based gaming from its mobile-exclusive model through WorldWinner’s web gaming portal.
