Somatic

Somatic is a New York-based company that offers an autonomous bathroom cleaning service for commercial office buildings. Their core offering is a robot that autonomously cleans bathrooms using a three-step, touchless cleaning process. The robot begins by spraying a chemical solution on surfaces for sanitization, followed by a jet of fresh water to remove debris and the chemical solution. Finally, it vacuums the floor dry using its built-in wet vacuum system. This process effectively sanitizes, disinfects, and eliminates odors, mold, mildew, and allergens from all bathroom surfaces and material types.

Somatic's robots operate autonomously, requiring no direct supervision, and can work up to 40 hours per week. The company offers this service on a monthly subscription basis at USD 1,000 per month, with no upfront fees. Prior to deployment, Somatic sends a sensor kit to the client's location, and an operator virtually maps the building's floor plan, including bathrooms and elevators, using video and 3D depth data. This mapping process allows the robot to navigate the premises autonomously.

While the robots are not designed to replace janitorial staff entirely, they handle routine sanitation tasks, freeing up human cleaners for other responsibilities. If the robot encounters an unexpected mess, it emails photos to the building's janitor for assistance.

Somatic's bathroom cleaning robots were first unveiled in 2020 and are currently in commercial operation.
