Unseenlabs is a French company utilizing satellite-based technology for the identification, recognition, and tracking of various radio emitters, as well as the collection and processing of proprietary data for maritime surveillance. The company specializes in satellite radio frequency (RF) data and solutions for maritime domain awareness, utilizing its proprietary satellite constellation for purposes like maritime traffic monitoring, security, defense, and environmental protection.
Unseenlabs employs a space-based RF detection system developed entirely in-house, encompassing hardware and software, enabling near real-time detection and characterization of the electromagnetic signature of any ship worldwide, regardless of weather conditions. Using its technology, based on the identification of electromagnetic waves emitted by ships, Unseenlabs claims to be able to geolocate any ship at sea from space to within one kilometer in near real-time.
The company launched its first nanosatellite and commercial service in August 2019 and October 2019, respectively. As of August 2023, it had launched nine nanosatellites. It planned to have its constellation at full scale by 2022, enabling full coverage of the globe and an optimal half-hour revisit time. The goal is to establish a constellation of 20-25 nanosatellites by 2025. Their goals are to establish a constellation of 20-25 nanosatellites by 2025 and launch new generation of 150-kilogram satellites by 2026.
Key customers and partnerships
In September 2022, Unseenlabs partnered with Ursa Space Systems, a provider of satellite intelligence infrastructure, to offer maritime surveillance solutions to the government and commercial sectors. Unseenlabs' RF data will be correlated with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from Ursa Space Systems to provide a higher level of accuracy in maritime domain awareness. In May 2021, the company also partnered with ORBCOMM, a global provider of IoT solutions, to offer RF services for maritime surveillance applications to ORBCOMM’s government and commercial Automatic Identification System (AIS) customers.
