Renaissance Fiber processes hemp fiber into fibers that can be used for knit and woven textile production, such as T-shirts, denim jeans, beanies, etc. The company supplies textile-ready hemp fibers in a range of material qualities and performance characteristics based on customer requirements. Its hemp fibers can be spun with cotton, wool, and synthetic yarn blends, ranging up to 75% hemp and one to 20 singles (i.e., gauge/thickness). Renaissance Fiber also offers toll manufacturing services, product development services, and consultations. Renaissance Fiber’s toll manufacturing is scalable to up to six million pounds of de-gummed fiber per month.
Its proprietary hemp de-gumming process mimics the tidal stream degradation process, where bacteria and fungi that specialize in decomposition break down the natural glue between the fibers. As a result, Renaissance Fiber’s process is stated to be a low cost, resource-efficient alternative to other de-gumming methods because it can use non-potable water for processing and involves minimum materials and energy overheads. The waste generated by the process can also be made ecologically invisible with minimal additional cost or can be recovered as a valuable product, creating additional savings. The company claims it operates the only all-America sustainable hemp fiber supply chain.
