Luminous Computing develops photonics chips for AI workloads that use light channels to send signals—instead of electricity—that conventional processors use, which in turn leads to higher performance due to the former being better in terms of energy, speed, and compute density. This allows the company to feed data into processing chips across a larger memory space and scale AI algorithms across more processors, enabling users to train models that are 100–1,000x larger at high speeds with a simple programming model.
Key customers and partnerships
The company partnered with Aware, an AI data platform for contextual intelligence, to power Aware's data platform to support GenAI adoption across enterprises.
Funding and financials
In March 2022, the company raised USD 105 million in a Series A funding round. The funds were utilized to build its custom chips and software, double its engineering headcount, and accelerate its commercial-scale production.
