Geoship develops movable modular single-family houses. The company offers two sizes of dome-shaped structures—a studio dome of 200 square feet and a family dome of 800 square feet, which includes a loft that can be combined to create living spaces. Studio domes were priced at USD 30,000, with a family dome priced at USD 100,000.
The modular panels of the house are factory-built as triangles and assembled on-site to form the required shape. Ceramic composite (CC), which is the main material used, is a resilient substance made of lightweight and fireproof minerals. CC also reflects around 80% of the heat from the sun, which helps maintain thermal comfort by utilizing less energy. The specific shape of the house requires less material and the company reports that the overall cost of developing a Geoship house is 40% less than traditional construction. Geoship houses can be disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere or recycled.
In January 2022, the company announced the installation of the first Geoship unit in the California mountains and the opening for pre-orders. The company also launched an equity crowdfunding campaign to raise up to USD 5 million to build a factory that can produce “thousands” of homes annually and to pilot production. The company has reportedly collected 400 paid deposits as of January 2022 with 30,000 interested customers.
