Onward offers transportation services in the form of round trips and door-to-door rides to medical appointments for seniors. Seniors can get their medical prescriptions or groceries delivered. Onward vets its drivers with the added criteria of patient assistance and drivers admitted to the platform are trained in CPR and dementia.
Onward caters to three types of customers; namely, older adults who can no longer drive, caregivers who cannot provide transport for loved ones, and people who can't drive for medical reasons. Riders are charged a minimum fee of USD 35 per hour after which it charges USD 1.5 per mile.
As of July 2019, the company had 25 drivers signed up and 500 completed rides. Onwards drivers are 1099 contractors (independent contractors) but they are paid USD 20 per hour, unlike the pay models of Uber and Lyft. As of December 2020, the company operates in the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Tampa, Florida.
In July 2019, Onward raised USD 1.5 million in seed funding from Royal Street Ventures, Matchstick Ventures, and JPK Capital.
