Emrgy Inc. develops hydroelectric solutions. According to the company, its proprietary hydropower units do not require gravity drop or head pressure unlike conventional systems. They operate by optimizing the velocity of the volume of water flowing through a channel. Furthermore, these are capable of generating 7,800 MWh annually.
Emrgy’s hydropower units do not require anchoring or any modifications to existing infrastructure and are designed as plug-and-play systems for quick deployments. Meanwhile, the modular nature of the units allows the system to be scaled by adding more units, as the demand for a given site increases.
Key customers and partnerships
The company has already deployed its solution to commercial customers including Denver Water, Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company, and Oakdale Irrigation District, with projects in New Zealand and a pilot system in South Africa.
In July 2019, Emrgy Inc. signed an agreement with General Electric (GE) Renewable Energy to supply the company with hydropower turbines. As a part of this agreement, GE was also expected to offer Emrgy’s products, along with its hydropower solutions, in select markets globally, expanding the distribution of Emrgy micro hydrokinetic solutions.
Funding and financials
In its latest funding round in April 2023, the company raised USD 18.4 million in a Series A funding round led by Oval Park Capital with participation from Fifth Wall, Blitzscaling Ventures, Overlay Capital, and Veriten. This brought the total funding raised by the company to USD 67.6 million. The new funding was to be used for deploying distributed hydropower projects, opening up its new turbine assembly facility, and expanding the team with additional hires to development, operations, and engineering teams.
