Sony Financial Ventures (SFV) is a venture capital fund under the management of Sony Financial Group and Global Brain. The fund focuses on investing in innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, internet of Things, and visualization. As of February 2020, SFV had participated in a funding round for Securitize, a digital securities platform, which raised over USD 14 million in total.
SFV's investment portfolio includes notable companies in the fintech and cybersecurity sectors. In February 2020, the fund invested in Securitize, a San Francisco-based security token issuance platform that aims to modernize traditional capital markets by enabling institutions to issue and manage tokenized assets. Another portfolio company is Secret Double Octopus, a cybersecurity firm specializing in passwordless authentication solutions for enterprises, which received investment from SFV as part of a funding round that included other corporate investors such as KDDI and Global Brain.
In January 2024, Sony Ventures Corporation, which oversees all of Sony Group's startup investment programs, including Sony Innovation Fund and Sony Innovation Fund by IGV, underwent a leadership change. Gen Tsuchikawa, who had been with Sony Innovation Fund since its inception in 2016, transitioned from CEO to chairman of Sony Ventures. Kazuhito 'Kaz' Hadano, formerly deputy chief executive, assumed the role of CEO. This transition signifies Sony Ventures' commitment to continuing its work in partnering with startups developing transformational technologies across various sectors, including deeptech, AI, healthtech, and entertainment.
